SUP Film Festival (SFF) rules & guidelines

BY SUBMITTING A FILM TO THE SUP FILM FESTIVAL (SFF) USING FILM FREEWAY, OUR SUBMISSION FORM, OR VIA MAIL, ENTRANT AGREES TO FOLLOW THESE RULES & GUIDELINES:

  1. The 2019 SFF submission deadline is February 25, 2019.

  2. Official 2019 SFF selections will be announced on March 11, 2019. Official selections are in SFF’s sole discretion.

  3. Each official SFF selection entrant shall be given 2 free entry tickets to the March 30, 2019 premiere in Santa Cruz, CA. Entrant must make their own travel accommodations. Entrant may be asked, upon SFF's discretion, to introduce their film.

  4. There is no entry fee to submit a film.

  5. Films should focus on some aspect of SUP (stand up paddling) -- travel, adventure, human interest, surf, race, environmental, social impact, etc. They can be live-action, animated, experimental, or other. Paddling films from other disciplines (outrigger, prone, surf ski, kayaking) may also be considered.

  6. While films from any year can be submitted, SFF gives preference to films made after January 1, 2015. SFF gives further preference to films never publicly screened.

  7. Each submitter can submit multiple films, but each film must be submitted separately.

  8. SFF prefers films 45 minutes or less:

    • Films 30 minutes or less are considered SHORTS. Shorts can't be too short. Some of our favorite SUP films are between 2-15 minutes long.

    • Films over 30 minutes are considered FEATURES. While longer films can be submitted, SFF prefers feature films (or film cuts) of 45 minutes or less.

  9. Submissions with non-English dialog must have English subtitles.

  10. Submissions must be uploaded to FilmFreeway, made available on a video streaming site such as Vimeo, or sent to us by the submission deadline in MPG, MOV, or WMV format with H.264 encoding at 1080p & a minimum 30 fps, via download site, thumb/hard drive, or data disc.

  11. Each entrant is responsible for any shipping or return shipping costs -- & also acknowledges that any submissions won't be returned unless a return packaging & return shipping is provided.
